Seasoned finance and audit professional Gayan joined Simmons Gainsford in January 2024, bringing more than a decade of experience to the firm.

Gayan is a proud member of the Association of Accounting Technicians in Sri Lanka and, in 2015, achieved an MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University. Looking ahead, he is in the process of planning and pursuing further accounting studies with the ICAEW.

Welcome, Gayan! How are you feeling about joining Simmons Gainsford?
“I’m thrilled about joining Simmons Gainsford! The opportunity to work with a well-established and reputable accounting firm is truly exciting. I’m eager to contribute my skills and learn from the experienced professionals and I look forward to the challenges and growth that come with this new chapter in my professional journey.”

What are you most looking forward to?
“I’m very much looking forward to building meaningful connections with my colleagues and being a valuable asset to the firm.”

What are your aims for 2024?
“In 2024, my primary professional goal is to contribute effectively to Simmons Gainsford’s mission while achieving personal and professional growth through progressing in my professional exams, with the ultimate aim of becoming a qualified auditor. This involves dedicating time and effort to mastering the necessary skills and knowledge required for the role, staying informed about industry trends and advancements and building strong relationships with colleagues and clients.”

If you could make one change in the world of audit and accounts, what would it be?
“I would focus on the integration of cutting-edge technologies to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in the audit process. This involves implementing advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence to improve financial information verification and reporting processes. Such technological enhancements aim for a significant reduction in manual efforts, minimising the risk of human error and enhancing the overall quality of audits.”

Has there been anything in the news or any recent changes to legislation that have caught your eye?
“The proposed and declared alterations highlighted in the Autumn Statement drew my attention. During the Autumn Statement of 2023, the Chancellor revealed a decrease in the rate of Class 1 National Insurance contributions for employees, transitioning from 12% to 10%, effective January 6, 2024.”

And finally, can you tell us something people may not know about you?
“Something people may not know about me is that, I have a deep passion for traveling. I find joy in exploring new places This love for exploration provides me with valuable insights that I bring back to both my personal and professional life.”
