CTA qualified tax adviser Jonathan has previously worked for both top 20 and smaller independent firms, and joined our team in London in February 2024 as Corporate Tax Manager.
Jonathan also has a law degree and in his new role, will specialise in corporate advisory work including restructuring, demergers, management buy-outs, incorporations and company valuations. He also possesses expert knowledge in R&D, Patent Box and other creative tax reliefs.
Welcome, Jonathan! How are you feeling about joining SG?
“Excited to get started. Having had three interviews with various partners, I have heard a lot about the ambition and culture of the firm and am keen to experience it for myself.”
What are you most looking forward to?
“Meeting my new team members and other staff from different departments.”
What are your aims for 2024?
“From a professional point of view, it is to settle into the role, develop the junior members of the team, ease the partners workload and provide experience and expertise to the tax team. From a personal perspective, it is to improve my skiing ability.”
If you could make one change in Corporate Tax, what would it be?
“I would change the loss carried back rules so that a trading company could carry back losses 24 months rather than the last 12 months as it is currently.”
Are there any recent Tax cases or changes to legislation that have caught your eye?
“I think the implementation of the Pillar 2 rules is potentially a game-changer for multinationals, as having a global minimum tax rate will require them to rethink their tax planning strategy, which will hopefully lead to more work for us tax advisers. However, if, when, and to what extent, each country implements the rules remains to be seen.”
Something people may not know about you..
“I once appeared on BBC One’s lottery quiz show, Who Dares Wins.”
