In memory of Alan Gainsford

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Gainsford, who died peacefully on Wednesday 25 January 2023, aged 87.

Alan set up in practice as a chartered accountant in 1960, and in 1996 merged his practice, Gainsford Elliot & Co, with Simmons Cohen Fine, the merged firm taking the new name of Simmons Gainsford.

Those of us lucky enough to work with Alan will remember his infectious enthusiasm and his positive attitude and intellect towards tackling everything put in his path. Long after he had passed over responsibility for looking after his clients, he remained a regular presence in our offices until leaving the UK in 2012 to settle in Israel. He remained a frequent visitor to the UK and would often pop in to see how his firm was doing.

It is testament to the esteem in which he was held that even after his happy retirement to Israel, clients of the firm would still call on Alan for advice, which he was always happy to give.

Alan was one of life’s true gentlemen and he will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
