Telephone Scam: Bogus calls from ‘HMRC’

There have recently been a spate bogus telephone calls from criminal gangs, posing as officers from HMRC.

These gangs have been calling both individuals and companies, stating that their accountants have made errors on their tax returns, resulting in additional tax due.

The individuals/companies are then threatened with the imminent arrival of bailiffs (as they have ignored fictitious letters demanding payment) , to seize goods for the ‘unpaid tax bill’ and they are asked to pay what they owe over the phone.

Please be aware of the scam and call your advisers before making any form of payment over the phone.

You should report all calls to HMRC providing them with the date, time, phone number used and content of the call, via the following address:-
